CHAPTER 10

Once we had our plans made, Kaira and Leif went to Greg’s mom’s house. Aaron and I headed to the casino. Since he rented a room there, we figured he might want to be there. He liked to gamble after all. I loved that we were going to the casino. I secretly hoped it would draw the morrigans out. I was craving a good fight. Leif said he was sure his friend could tap into the surveillance, so we could watch for when he showed up. Our job was to rent a hotel room and Haskell would meet us there. I suggested setting up an arsenal. No one went with me on that one. Too bad, I’d been itching to play with my new guns.

Cory got up from the couch. “Do you need any assistance at the casino? Usually, I stay the hell out of this shit, but I could spend some time at the tables. Let you know if I see the guy around. None of them know me.” The mischievous smile that spread across his face let me know he was going for the gambling, not looking out for Greg.

“That’s not a half-bad idea,” Aaron scratched his chin. “It wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a few extra eyes around the place.”

“Amber, love, you want to go play at the casino?” Cory asked.

“Oh, I love it there.” She jumped up from the couch. “I’ll go change.” She darted down the hallway. I wasn’t sure why she needed to change. I looked down at myself and cocked my head to the side. Shit, where was I going to hide a gun? Changing might not be a bad idea.

“Yeah, I should probably do that too.” I met Aaron’s eyes.

“Shall we say, about twenty minutes?” Leif asked. “We can check on the mother’s place. If we don’t see him, we’ll join you at the casino.” Kaira stepped next to him, lacing her fingers with his. It was interesting, these two seemed to need to touch each other. They never went too long without some kind of physical contact. I wondered if that was what it was like to be bonded. You felt the need to be close to them all the time. I made a note to ask Kaira about it later. She obviously chose to be bonded to Leif. She also made a comment about it when we met outside the bar. I’m sure she’d be willing to give me some advice about what I was getting into. It seemed weird to be so sure about something this fast. I’d never been one to fall head over heels for a guy, not once in my entire life. But that’s what it felt like with Aaron. I wasn’t sure falling was the right word but it sure scared the hell out of me.

Aaron ran his hand down my arm. “You okay?” he asked concern brimming in his eyes.

“Yeah, just thinking about everything. I want to find a way to go back to my place.
